This page is dedicated to an essay i have completed in my first year of architecture. The essay was for my Architectural History & Theory module. The following is a small description of the task and the general outline of my research and findings. Furthermore clicking upon the PDF file link will open up the essay to view in full.

The task set to myself was to research and write about the following: a particular period of time within architecture, an architecural style, a particular architectural typology, a specific building or a specific architect. As we were not limited to just one of these topics I decided to write about the Palazzo Ruccellai and its importance within the Renaissance period and the Humanism ideology that accompanied it. The essay was centred around the Palazzo Ruccellai and its design but also the evolution of what architecture is for and who architecture is for. For example before this period all architecture was designed with a particular god in mind, this goes for all religions, however during and after this period architects began to show people how buildings should be for the users and should benefit the activity they are undertaking.
